First things first! As a member of HArts, you can expect:

Round-the-clock access to the HArts floor of DSP, including our varied on-floor amenities. This includes our HArts lounge, fine arts studio, photography studio, music and audio studio, a plethora of art supplies, and a small library of various texts surrounding arts and other media! HArts also works with schools on campus to provide members with resources and tools outside of our organization.
Exclusive access to HArts events, including facilitated art-focused workshops, critique/showcase nights, and social events like game nights! HArts also teams with other organizations like RIT’s College of Art and Design to invite you to events from outside and facilitates trips to functions like Artist’s Row that can expand your artistic outreach.
Connection to the largest organized artistic community on the east side of campus. Members of HArts are individuals from various artistic backgrounds that culminate in a close-knit community of exceptional artists and friends. One of our most prized qualities is the supportive and homely connection developed every year as HArts grows and changes!
Control over the entire world... (sorry)

To On-floor or to Off-floor that is the question...

On-floor and off-floor are terms used by Special Interest Houses to denote whether a member lives directly on the dormitory floor reserved for that SIH, or elsewhere. All members of HArts equally receive the same membership benefits. To choose to live on or off-floor, you will indicate this preference in your application. You will then be able to choose a room on DSP-4 if you are selected as an on-floor member, or be assigned to any other residence hall if otherwise.

On-floor

On-floor members of HArts live on the fourth floor of Fredericka Douglass Sprague Perry Hall, or DSP-4. Most on-floor residents are first years, with a comfortable number of upperclassmen present every year. Due to their direct proximity to HArts, these members have more direct access to amenities and the HArts community and pay $150 in dues.

Off-floor

Off-floor members are members of HArts who live in any other location. These members are granted swipe access to DSP and are permitted full access to the HArts floor, events, resources, and all other member benefits! Off-floor members pay $100 in dues and have slightly reduced attendance and engagement requirements to account for living further from the HArts floor.

How do I apply?

After being accepted as a student of RIT, and declaring your enrollment, you will receive instructions on applying for housing and dining. In the housing section of this application, you will be prompted to indicate if you would like to apply to a Special Interest House (SIH). After selecting House of the Arts (HArts), you will receive a copy of the HArts application.

In your application, you can let us get to know you as a person and an artist! You can also indicate whether you want to live on-floor or off-floor. Please note that while we do not prioritize the first people to apply, we do review applications as they roll in, and on-floor spots fill quickly!

In the meantime, you can also join our discord as a prospective member to get involved with the community! Use this link, and be sure to select the “Prospective Member” role: https://discord.gg/gGDQ9rmV5H
